In the interdisciplinary installation YU NA MI SREFI, Terra Isis Gitane reflects on black fatherhood within Surinamese and Afrodiasporic communities, grappling with the lasting impact of colonialism, also reflected in the so-called 'broken family' structures.

Through film, photography and, poetry, Terra researches what happens when stories of fathers are reduced to a singular narrative, and explores how grief can transform into growth. A shared exploration for understanding and the healing of generational trauma, creating space for a deeper and more honest conversation.

The Afro-European Exhibition

In dialogue with the VPRO docu-series The Afro-European, this exhibition holds space for both the complex realities and the unyielding joy embedded within Afro-diasporic identities. Alongside artists Anthony Ngoya and Tengbeh Kamara, Terra explores home, memory, and belonging.

Across four visual encounters, her work refuses to let identity be defined solely by systemic weight, anchoring it instead in reclaimed space and the radical joy of being (irrevocably ourselves.)

As your eyes familiarise the curve in every lining,

the concept of home branches into an array of passageways

There will be space to shelter in the belonging of your longing

In the unfolding embrace of growing pains

seeds will grow into trees, transforming grieve into tears

In the embrace of unknown soil exists redefining

every curve of finding

In the embrace of unknown soil belonging shelters longing

In the embrace of unknown soil lies the remembrance that

home is within, even without its tangible presence.
