Tending to Grief
Cyanotype, Self-Portraiture, Landscape Photography & Poetry
'Throughout this journey of tending to grief, I encountered a home living in my bones,
in the interior landscapes of the body.'
For the past five years, among many other emotional landscapes, grief has taken a prominent role in Terra’s life and artistic practice.
Through the ongoing series Tending to Grief, she explores and visualizes the interior landscapes of loss and healing
through self-portraiture, landscape photography, cyanotype, and poetry.
Throughout this necessary journey of truly tending and holding space for grief, she encountered a home within herself,
living in her bones, in the interior landscapes of her body.

'Home is a place, a person, or a memory where I hold all parts of myself with unconditional love and acceptance.
It is where I can be present with the entirety of my uncertainties, as well as my fulfilled and unfulfilled hopes and dreams.
It is where love remains an endless well, long after the departure of whatever ignited that initial flame of remembrance.
Home is returning to a body weathered and grazed by the systemic weight and contradictions of the world around us(me?),
yet still remembering the islands of joy, anchored in the quiet truth of one’s fundamental wholeness.
Home is arriving within oneself, making the conscious choice to keep choosing ourselves entirely and irrevocably.
Embracing departures as much as arrivals.'

'Wortels in onmogelijkheid/Roots in uncertainty'
Rooted in the liminial space between the
mangrove forest and the Atlantic Ocean…
Their silhouettes reflect a tale of resilience
of 'putting down roots in inconceivable soil'
Their silhouettes, a reflection of us
Their endurance, a reflection of us
Their root system a reflection of our delta
Meandering through parting and change
Through that which is inextricably bound to the rhythm of life.
